Justin Trudeau, 51, a prominent figure in Canadian politics and the son of a famous politician, took office in 2015. Sophie Trudeau, a former model and TV host, brought star power alongside him, and the couple appeared in Vogue magazine.
They have three children together: Xavier, 15, Ella-Grace, 14, and Hadrien, 9. Despite the separation, they emphasized their commitment to remaining a close family with love and respect for each other and for the life they have built together.
Justin Trudeau will continue to reside at Rideau Cottage in Ottawa, where he has lived since taking office, and the children will primarily live there to maintain stability. Sophie has moved to a separate home in Ottawa but will spend time at Rideau Cottage, especially when the prime minister is traveling.
The couple’s separation is the second instance of a Canadian prime minister announcing a separation while in office. During Pierre Trudeau’s last year as prime minister in 1984, his parents, Pierre Trudeau and Margaret Trudeau, separated in 1979 and later divorced.
Trudeau’s office requested privacy and understanding during this time, and they will be spending time together on a vacation in the upcoming week.
